Tableside Sleep Intervention with Pain Patients following Physical Therapy

Sexton-Radek K, Abbey Larr

Pain patients often report sleep disturbances secondary to the pain experience, and at times, the change in activity level while recuperating from medical procedures. To address this need, a modified version of CBTi was administered by the first author across three sessions during rest times of their rehabilitation appointments. Nine patients volunteered for the “table side” sessions with the Sleep Specialist. The participants completed sleep logs, basic sleep surveys and engaged in a discussion format of their implementation of sleep restriction, stimulus control, cognitive errors about sleep basics and sleep hygiene practices. Results are summarized in terms of demographics of the participants and collected data about their sleep.
