Foot-and-Mouth Disease Virus Transmission and Vaccine Efficacy in Punjab, Pakistan

Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) is an acute disease due to the infection with a Picorna virus that causes vesicular lesions in cloven-hoofed animals. The objectives of this study were to estimate the adequate daily contact rate (k), the mean number of daily contacts by an individual adequate for virus transmission of FMD, and the efficacy of FMD vaccines (VE) used in selected districts of the Punjab region of Pakistan.
