Identical Twins Rhinoplasty: Challenges & Psychological Aspects

Being part of a "twin unit" presents a unique experience for twins. It is also an unique experience and a true challenge for the rhinoplasty surgeon to operate on such an exceptional group of patients because of the complex interplay of psychological and social influences on" these two parts of a set". This article attempts to show the authors' experience in rhinoplasty in identical twins, demonstrating the questions that must be answered and the major challenges that must be considered before performing such surgeries. The authors present their experiences with a series of cases involving six pairs of twins (12 patients); five of these pairs of twins were phenotypically identical and underwent aesthetic nasal surgery between 2009 and 2013.
