In Midwifery Evidence based practice is widely accepted as a fundamental tenant. Evidence Based practice is the process of making clinical decisions based upon evidence, clinical experience and patient expectations. It is about using research rather than doing it. Evidence based midwifery believe in the movement away from always doing things in the way in which we were taught and from decisions based on personal opinion. It requires that we look for and appraise research evidence to inform decisions about tests, treatments, patterns of practice, and policy. The evidence drawn on to underpin practice should be in the public domain, open to scrutiny, clinically based, take account of women and their families. The midwife responsibilities is to make use of all available resources to inform her practice including experimental knowledge
