Acoustics is a branch of physics that deals with the study of mechanical waves in gases, liquids and solids, including topics such as vibration, sound, ultrasound and infrasound. People who work in the field of acoustics are called physicists, while those who work in the field of acoustics are called physical engineers. Applications of acoustics are found in most sectors of modern society, most notably in the sound and noise control industry.
